In the Faroe Islands, European drone regulations and the Faroese order on drones apply.
This means that you can operate your drone as you would within the EU. However, you must still be aware of certain exceptions and familiarize yourself with specific distance requirements on the Faroe Islands.

Flying in the open category under European drone regulations
European regulations define the distance requirements to people, outline compliance related to drone certificates, and specify when a risk assessment must be submitted.
- Maximum altitude: 120 meters above ground level
- Your drone must remain within Visual Line of Sight (VLOS)
- European drone certificates are valid on the Faroe Islands
- No drone certificate required for drones weighing up to 250 grams
- Obtain the appropriate drone certificate for your drone
- Drones introduced after January 1, 2025, must bear a C-mark
Overview of distance requirements and restrictions according to the Faroese orders on drones
Below is an overview of distance requirements and geographic drone zones on the Faroe Islands, as defined in the Faroese order on drones (BEK 114 of January 31, 2024).
Everyone must comply with the rules in the Faroese order on drones regardless of whether or not a drone certificate is required.
- Maintain a 5 km distance from Vága Floghavn
- Maintain a 2 km distance from Helicopter Landing Sites (HEMS)
- Exceptions for A2 drone certificates
- Permission to fly over private property
- Flying over environmental protected areas
- No flying over fisheries inspections or whale hunts
- Insurance requirements
- Certain areas require permission from the Danish Civil Aviation and Railway Authority
