The task of extending the runway has made some progress

Work has now begun in earnest

Initial preparations begun in April and the first dynamite blast was on the 6th of May. Now two weeks later, the workplace is up and running and all the relevant equipment, such as drilling-rigs, excavators and dumpers have arrived.

The work has commenced at the southern side of the airport, at the end of the existing runway.

To date, the access road leading to the quarry has been widened and smoothened. Work to excavate earth from the quarry has begun, a preliminary fence has been erected to the south and east of the airport, some initial trial blasting has been concluded and a drainage system intended to collect runoff water from the workplace is in place.

The project administration is located on the industrial site above the main highway, while the actual workplace is in the quarry to the south of the runway.
