17,7% more passengers over April

Easter holiday traffic has greatly influenced passenger numbers over April.

A total of 15.598 passengers came through Vagar Airport over April of 2006. This is 17,7% more compared to April of last year, when the corresponding figure stood at 13.251. This large increase is partly due to the Easter last year being in March, while this year they were in April. A growth has been recorded on all scheduled routes. On the route to Denmark the growth was 11,3%, to Iceland 42,1% to Great Britain 11,9%. On the Norway routes the growth over April was almost 650%. It should however be noted, that last year's figures were relatively quite small, e.g. 106 against 688 for April of 2006.

To date, e.g. the period from January to April, a total of 47.593 passengers have come through the airport. This is 9,0% increase compared to the corresponding period for last year, when the figure stood at 43.651. Also for this period an increase has been recorded on all routes except to Great Britain, which recorded exactly the same number of passengers.

While passenger numbers have been increasing over April, the number of operations, e.g. arrivals and departures have been considerably less.

For April, 449 aircraft have come and departed through the airport. This is 12,5% less compared to April of last year, when the corresponding figure was 513. The explanation is that there has especially been a drop in helicopter operations and fewer staff instruction/training flights in April of 2006 compared to April of 2005. To date, 1.581 aircraft have arrived and departed over the airport, or a 2,3% increase compared to the corresponding period for last year.
